We love our dogs like family and they are considered to be a member, just like anyone else in the home.

Besides giving your dog proper care, exercise and playing fetch, there is one more thing that you need to focus on, the dog’s nutrition. Dogs cannot easily digest some foods that we can as humans. The food that we devour with delight can be poisonous to dogs.

Below we have listed five dangerous foods that must be avoided at all times to keep your dog healthy.

Chocolate

While it is a delicacy that we like to eat with joy, chocolate can prove to be deadly for your dog. Dogs and chocolate are not best buddies. Chocolate contains methylxanthine which is similar to poison for dogs.

If consumed in a high amount this can cause a severe level of diarrhea, arrhythmia, high temperature, seizures and in the worst case scenario, it can even cause death.

Whether it is a dark chocolate bar or a jar of cocoa powder, make sure you keep it away from your dog in order to keep your dog fit and avoid these deadly symptoms.

Xylitol

It is a common substance that is widely found in sugarless and unsweetened baked foods, candy and gum. It can sometimes even be found in breath fresheners and toothpaste.

However, this is one substance that dogs cannot tolerate even a bit. Xylitol can cause your dog to seize and vomit constantly until they fall. This substance is heavily toxic for dogs and if consumed, can even cause liver damage and severe indigestion.

Try to keep foods that contain xylitol away from your dog at all times.

Grapes and Raisins

This is a very common fruit that can be found around the house which everyone loves. But be careful if you have a dog in the house, as grapes or raisins are one of the greatest health hazards for a dog.

Grapes have proven to be poisonous for dogs and if taken in large amount can even cause permanent kidney failure.

Even if only a small amount is ingested, it can cause hours of indigestion, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. Hence always try to avoid this item near your dog. Whether in a fruit salad or maybe a bowl of oatmeal, make sure you keep raisins away from your dog.

Onions or Shallots

These are available in the pantry of every home. But if you are a dog owner, you need to keep onions well hidden from your dog for the sake of their health.

Onions contain thiosulphate, which is a toxin for dogs. If your dog eats onion in any cooked or raw form, it can cause severe damage to their red blood cells and damage them permanently.  Other than that, it can cause digestive issues and anemia as well. Keep these food locked in a safe zone where the puppy won’t be able to reach.

Fried Foods

Fried foods are very unhealthy for dogs. They have a lot of problems breaking them down and digesting them.

Dog’s sensitive digestive systems cannot process oily and fried foods well and can make them severely sick.

Conclusion

Your dog’s health is completely your responsibility and you must take all measures to avoid these food items that can cause them pain and discomfort. If you maintain a safe zone in the house and keep these foods away from your dog’s reach you can have a happier and healthier dog.
